I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit
herewith, to be laid before the Secretary of State
for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His
Majesty's Minister at Peking containing further
information on the subject.
Sir E. Grey concurs in the views expressed by
Sir J. Jordan, and he will be glad if Mr. Harcourt
will issue the necessary instructions in order that
Sir J. Jordan may be kept informed of the progress of
the negotiations.
